In an effort to eliminate confusion about Word Work weekly assignments in Room 308, I have provided a description of any of the assignments you may see in your student's assignment notebook. Students will receive their new sorts on Tuesdays in Room 308 (Ms. Koeble's class). Their test will be given and their assignment is due the following Tuesday. Students should practice sorting every night.
Parts of Speech- Choose 10 words in their sort and state whether it's a noun, verb, adjective, etc.
Story- Use 10 of their words within a story (can be about whatever they'd like). Underline/circle the words.
Letter- Write a letter to someone using 10 of their words. Underline/circle the words.
Word Hunt- As students do their nightly reading for their Reading Logs, they should hunt for words that fit into their sort headings and record them. No minimum or maximum required. Some will be more difficult than others.
Sentences- Write 10 sentences using 10 different words.
Definitions- Write definitions for 10 of their words.
Speed Sorts- Time themselves 5 times throughout the week sorting their words. Record the times. Please initial your student's Speed Sort times.
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
REMINDER: ALL students in both Room 306 and 308 have their Reading Logs due every Monday. They should be reading and recording nightly for at least 20 minutes. Students should also be practicing their multiplication and division math facts nightly. This can be done by flipping two playing cards and multiplying them together. If you need division flash cards provided, please contact Ms. Koeble or Mrs. Erickson.
Happy December!
